The United Way of Washington County is a volunteer-driven, charitable organization that serves the communities surrounding our Allenton, WI headquarters. They give back to over 20 nonprofit programs that focus on education, financial stability and the health of the community. Some of their partners include the American Red Cross, Big Brothers and Big Sister of Washington County and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Washington County. Although not everyone is in the direct line of their support, we all know someone, a friend, family member, coworker or child who has received the support of one of the United Way partners, such as the Kettle Moraine YMCA or Senior Citizen Activities, Inc. In addition to their year-round initiatives, they hold an Annual Campaign, including fundraising, food and hygiene drives and more. For over a decade we have participated in their Annual Campaigns as a Pacesetter Organization, an organization that holds its own internal campaign to help the United Way reach its goal.
The United Way of Washington County’s 2020 campaign raised over $1.7 million and we worked to help them raise the bar this year! Their goal for the 2021 campaign is to raise $1.8 million, and hopefully, we will help them surpass this year’s goal as well!
This year we ran our campaign in October and collected over $4,000 for the United Way of Washington County. In the first week, we raised $2,000, and by the end of the second week, departments came together to create a raffle to encourage additional donations. We put together prizes for the drawing, including special parking spots and Maysteel merch from our company store. We also held raffles on November 1st, the Monday after the campaign closed, to thank those that donated.
Although our campaign was donation-based, there are other ways you can contribute to the United Way of Washington County’s mission, such as becoming a volunteer. Volunteering with the United Way gives you the opportunity to make a difference and help your community. Not only can you volunteer, but you can also use their website to find volunteer opportunities with their partners. They also have food and personal hygiene drives that individuals, families and companies can collect items to help those in need.
We would like to thank our Maysteel team members who donated to the United Way of Washington County, and helped us give back to the communities that support our Allenton headquarters. We had a great time this year with our fundraiser, and look forward to the 2023 campaign.
