(Allenton, WI) Wisconsin-based Maysteel LLC, a leading manufacturer of precision sheet metal enclosures, is expanding its sheet metal fabrication operations with the addition of a new plant in Monterrey, Mexico.

The 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2012 with 60 employees, according to Maysteel President and CEO J. Monte Roach. The new plant will be set up to provide complete sheet metal manufacturing and powder coating capabilities for complex weldments, chassis and enclosures for current and prospective customers in the region.

Products fabricated in Mexico will undergo the same rigorous new product development process that is used by Maysteel’s U.S locations and is a key feature that differentiates Maysteel from typical metalforming companies. Maysteel will utilize its Program Management, Project Engineering and Technical Center in Allenton, Wis. for product and process validation before launching production of a new product in Monterrey. This approach ensures that product quality, efficient manufacturing processes and lowest total costs have been designed into the product prior to production launch.

The decision to locate a plant in Mexico is a response to key customers who have final assembly facilities located in Mexico and prefer to source their sheet metal enclosures in the region, Roach said. “Fabricating these enclosures near our key customers’ final assembly point is more cost effective and requires fewer logistical considerations and less lead time than if they were fabricated in Wisconsin and transported to Mexico for final assembly,” he said. “Our customers have told us they place a high value on Maysteel’s partnership approach to new product development and robust manufacturing capabilities. Now they can have these benefits coupled with local fabrication in Mexico.”
