EAA Air Camp Sponsored Maysteel Industries Wraps 2016

August 3, 2016, Allenton, WI – For the sixth year in a row, Maysteel Industries LLC sponsored and participated in the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Air Camp. Founded in 1999 by a retired West Bend High School physics teacher & pilot – Dr. Paul Lupton – the purpose of the camp is to promote aviation for upcoming generations.

The nine day course at the West Bend Airport is for 13-16 year olds to learn about aviation topics including: Principles of Flight, Meteorology, Propulsion, Aircraft Wiring, Map Reading, Navigation, GPS/In Flight Weather, Fiberglass Composites, Aluminum Wing Design, Flight Simulation, Flight Planning and Drones & RC Flying. The course also offers participants a chance to take actual discovery flights in gliders, helicopters and planes. A "Young Eagles" Fly-Out, on graduation day (to the Sheboygan, Green Bay, Oshkosh - EAA and West Bend Airports) is the signature event of the camp.

After graduation, EAA Chapter #1158 sponsored a potluck cookout with Certificates presented to all students and their families. This year we had a "Full Class" of (16) students from locations as near as West Bend and as far away as Hong Kong (an aunt enrolled one of the students during his summer visit to Wisconsin!). Parents and students agreed that they all received great value from the camp.

Maysteel Industries again sponsored the "Aluminum Wing Project" during the camp. Engineering team members Bob Kuenzi and Bill Leininger led this project along with retired Maysteel employee Bob Yach. Maysteel also provided key chains to all of the students, with each student fabricating their own chain using a portable "self-clinching" press. This was a great opportunity to showcase for parents, instructors and students that Maysteel manufactures products they use every day (Self-Checkout Lanes, DVD Kiosks, Soda Vending Machines, ect.)!
