June 14, 2016, Allenton, WI – This year, Maysteel Industries LLC will again welcome a group of students into our Summer Internship Program. This program is open to juniors and seniors in high school, as well as Associate Degree candidates at local technical colleges. The Summer Internship Program is designed to expose exceptional area students to careers in Engineering and Manufacturing.
For 2016, the Program will shift focus towards a broader scope of engineering activities. Candidates from area schools were again recruited as part of the Washington County Workforce Alliance Career Fairs. We also had a couple candidates referred to us as children of current employees. Our finalists were selected for a series of formal interviews. Candidates were judged based on their experience with engineering concepts, knowledge of sheet metal design and most importantly, ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
The Maysteel 2016 Summer Internship Program participants are:
Kate Wallschlaeger, who has amassed an impressive array of individual awards including National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist, GEMS Young Woman Leadership Award, Washington County Youth Leadership Award and Skills USA Regional Champion for Solid Modeling. She is interested in a career in Mechanical Engineering. Kate has finished her senior year at Slinger High School and will attend MSOE this coming fall. She describes herself as someone who is interested in working with others to better the lives of people facing all natures of adversity. She is a member of the high school varsity tennis team and was named MVP in both 2014 and 2015. If your children attend Slinger or Jackson elementary schools, they very well may have been tutored by Kate.
Thomas Lawinger, who graduated with honors from Brookfield Academy, is interested in an Electrical Engineering career and will attend UW-Platteville this fall. Thomas has excelled in the AP program at Brookfield Academy. He expects to leave High School with 37 college credits, including 14 credits in physics related courses. During the past four years he has worked summers running his own lawn care service.
